Itinerary overview

A closer look at the flow of your journey. Daily timing always remains flexible.

Day

01

Anamaduwa Arrival

Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport with a warm welcome, then transfer to Anamaduwa. Settle in with a sunset walk around the tank bund, an easy introduction to the slower, community-based pace that defines this sustainable journey. Overnight in Anamaduwa.

Day

02

Birdwatching & Village Cooking

Follow a bird-watching trail around Anamaduwa’s wetlands, then join a kayaking session or cycle through a picturesque village. In the evening, take part in a cooking class over an open fire (best June–September for calm water; migratory birds more visible November–March). Overnight in Anamaduwa.

Day

03

Dambulla Caves & Local Market

Visit the Dambulla Cave Temple, ideally early to avoid the midday heat between March and May, then take a short walk through a local spice and vegetable market to see everyday village commerce up close. Overnight in Habarana.

Day

04

Sigiriya & Minneriya Elephants

Climb Sigiriya Rock Fortress at sunrise, followed by a herbal foot massage and a jeep safari in Minneriya National Park, where elephant gatherings peak July–October (consider Kaudulla or Eco Park outside this window). Overnight in Habarana.

Day

05

Nalanda Gedige & Kandy

Transfer to the Kandy and Digana area, visiting the Nalanda Gedige and the Temple of the Tooth Relic in Kandy, followed by an evening walk around Kandy Lake as the city settles into dusk. Overnight in Digana.

Day

06

Knuckles Nature Hike

Join a guided hike through the Knuckles Mountain Range with local naturalist interpretation, best undertaken January–April and August–September; avoid October–December when leech activity is high in the wet months. Overnight in Digana.

Day

07

Digana Village & Jungle Swim

Spend the day immersed in village life, with a refreshing swim in a hidden jungle waterfall and a traditional cooking lesson followed by dinner, offering a slow, community-centred close to the Digana stay. Overnight in Digana.

Day

08

Gal Oya Transfer

Transfer toward Gal Oya, stopping along the way at a roadside cashew or curd-and-treacle stall for a taste of local produce. Take a late-afternoon nature walk near the lodge to settle into the wilderness surroundings. Overnight in Gal Oya.

Day

09

Boat Safari & Vedda Village

Join a boat safari through Gal Oya’s reservoir, then visit an Indigenous Vedda village to learn about one of Sri Lanka’s oldest surviving communities and their traditional way of life. Overnight in Gal Oya.

Day

10

Koslanda & Diyaluma Falls

Transfer to Koslanda, taking a nature walk to explore the surroundings, with a stop at the Diyaluma or Rawana Falls viewpoint en route for a scenic, unhurried travel day. Overnight in Koslanda.

Day

11

Leisure Day in Koslanda

Enjoy a flexible leisure day with an optional self-guided viewpoint walk or a half-day add-on excursion to Ella, or simply relax at the lodge if heavy rain sets in during May–June or October–November. Overnight in Koslanda.

Day

12

Yala Safari & Rock Carvings

Transfer to Yala with an optional stop at the Buduruwagala rock carvings, followed by an afternoon jeep safari (the park is typically closed from early September to early October; best sightings February–June). Overnight near Yala.

Day

13

Sinharaja Night Trail

Transfer to Sinharaja, stopping en route at a spice garden or gem village, then join a guided night trail with a naturalist to experience the rainforest’s nocturnal wildlife. Overnight in Sinharaja.

Day

14

Rainforest to Bentota Coast

Walk the main nature trail through Sinharaja Rainforest with canopy-level birdwatching for endemic species, then transfer to the coast at Bentota for a sunset beach walk, a striking contrast after days of forest and highland travel. Overnight in Bentota.

Day

15

Departure

Transfer to Colombo with an optional stop at a craft shop or Galle Face Green before departure, closing a journey built around community-based stays, low-impact travel and Sri Lanka’s lesser-visited wilderness areas.
